Hour 12 — Mid Event Meme! You’re Halfway There!

Hello everyone! Cass from Bonjour, Cass! here. I would like to extend my appreciation once again to the always wonderful Andi and Heather for covering me on Hour 11–which I somehow thought was Hour 12–and ensuring I did not single-handedly bring down the readathon. Want to hear a joke? What do you call an accountant who can’t count? An acant. Thank you, thank you, hold the applause until all books have been read, thank you.***

Hour 12 is always my favorite hour of the Readathon because it’s the Grace Kelly, it’s the M*A*S*H*, it’s the To Kill a Mockingbird of readathon hours; it’s time for the classic Mid-Event Survey! Answer the questions on your blog, tumblr, Instagram, MySpace, LinkedIn, Google+, comments, Friendster, whatever platform is working for you these days, and post your link in the Linky below for your chance to win.

  1. I don’t have a current website that isn’t a portfolio site, so leaving my answers in comments will have to do 🙂

I’m going back to reading Hannibal by Thomas Harris
    2. How many books have you read so far?
I’ve read two, and in the middle of my third. I took a break from the third (Hannibal) and went to read the other two.

    Probably more of Hannibal!
    4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day?
No, luckily it’s my spring break and a weekend, so I don’t have college to worry about at the moment, and I already tackled my finals a few days in advance 🙂
    5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
I had to head out to get groceries quick, make lunch, and do some chores, but that leaves me the rest of the evening free 🙂
    6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
    How many people are participating!
    7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?

    8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year?
    9. Are you getting tired yet?
    10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered?
I take little breaks when I read because sometimes I get a bit distracted. Just a break to stretch, or grab a drink. That might help others too, but… that’s it from me! 😀

  3. 1. What are you reading right now?
Just finished The Odyssey by Homer, about to start Fragments by Dan Wells.

    2. How many books have you read so far?

Lord of the Flies and The Odyssey

    3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?

    4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day?
    Nope

    5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
Yes, by my little brother and mum. With my brother I simply ignored him and at times said “mm” or “yeah”. With my mum I tried to keep it as quick as possible so I could go back to reading.

    6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
That there are more than 800 people this time.

    7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
Nope it’s great as it is.

    8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year?
Nothing. It’s all worked out really well for me this time

    9. Are you getting tired yet?
Yep, seeing as it’s past midnight in the UK. I’ve got a few hours until I get really tired though.

    10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered?
I think most reader know about most of the tops I’d give. One thing I have done this year is timed how long it takes to read a page of the book to see how many hours it’ll take me to read the whole thing, then add an extra 30 minutes or so to that time to get a deadline for when I’ll finish the book. It just makes me push myself a little harder and stops me taking long breaks.

    2. How many books have you read so far?
One book and one short story
    3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?
    Half Bad by Sally Green

I had to revise yesterday and cancel revision plans today. I also cancelled my Game of Thrones Season 2 marathon but there is reading to be done!:)
    5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
I have younger brothers and they always want me to play with them. I made a promise to buy them all sweets tomorrow to make up for it!
    6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
The amount of support! Everyone has been so supportive, on twitter especially. I am talking to new people all the time!
    7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
This is hard as the readathon is already pretty amazing! But I have a suggestion. Some twitter friends, who are also taking part in the readathon, and I started a Voxer group, which is a walke talkie/ voice noting app and we talk there every hour or so. I think it would be pretty great for people to be able to share their usernames for apps like Voxer so we can find more people to talk to!:D
    8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year?
I think I would get some more sleep the night before. I was planning to but it didn’t happen.
    9. Are you getting tired yet?
    Not yet!
    10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered?
For me, I take hourly breaks to rest my eyes, move around. I have also found that musics does really well to cancel out noise. I have a pretty noisy family and during the day time I like to plug in my earphones and listen to some music whilst reading. I know some readers can’t do this, I couldn’t either but I recently got used to blocking out the noise with yet more noise.
I hope everyone is doing well!
