Hour 24 – Final Hour of the Decade… FINISH LINE!!!!

This is Kate from Kate’s Book Nook and I we are now in the final hour of the readathon! I just realized as I was sitting here to write this, that this is also the final hour of any readathons of this decade (the 20 10s). Next readathon will be in 2020, and that is so crazy to think about.

Last Hour we played Never Have I Ever. I won’t lie to you, it was pretty hard to come up with those things that I had never done. Would have been much easier if I had let myself select things that I personally had done.

With it being so close to the end and people trying to get their final push in, I thought that this hour we would do something easy for our mini challenge. Post at least one of your favorite book related gifs. Imaginary bonus points if it is about a specific book. One of my favorites is below.

Thank you so much for joining us for another amazing Readathon. I’ve loved every minute of these last few hours (and the proceeding 20). If you’ve read anything at all today, you are a winner in my books. And so, just like every other year, I will send you out with the celebration song of champions! I’ll see you all in 2020!

Closing Survey!

  1. How would you assess your reading overall?
  2. Did you have a stategy, and if so, did you stick to it?
  3. What was your favorite snack?
  4. Wanna volunteer for our next event?

Hour 23 – Never Have I Ever

This is Kate from Kate’s Book Nook and we are in the final two hours away from wrapping up another fun event.

If you checked in last hour, you saw that we played “Would You Rather?” Personally, I’m still mentally debating that one. Only be allowed to read one book for the rest of my life would suck big time. It could potentially ruin my favorite book if that is all I had. But to think about reading the whole Twilight series over and over again just to be allowed to read a different book… well I really don’t know. I guess I would probably have to take the Twilight option… but ugh, that’s hard. I don’t know how my own brain contrived such a difficult situation.

This hour we are playing a different mini-challenge. We are playing a sort of Never Have I Ever Game. I’ll start us out with a list of 10 Never Have I Ever book related questions. You answer in the comments and if you have any “Never Have I Evers” you can add them in the comment. Feel free to answer other peoples situations as well.

  • … successfully completed a Seasonal Reading Challenge
  • … read a Harry Potter book in its entirety in one night (even though I attended several midnight release parties)
  • … completed all of the mini-challenges during Readathon
  • … read 50 Shades of Grey
  • … made a booktube video
  • … participated in the 24in48 readathon
  • … stayed up all night just to see how the book ends
  • … read during my lunch breaks
  • … read a series out of order
  • … completed all my goals for a readathon. But I have fun trying 🙂

Hour 22 – Would You Rather?

</figure

Hello Readathoners! This is Kate from Kate’s Book Nook (don’t bother looking visiting. I haven’t posted in ages!) and I’m here to get you to the end of the readathon! It’s so crazy to think we are in the final three hours. Overall, this has been a really successful readathon for me. I’ve finished three books (two of which were previously started) and started two others.

These last few readathons have been crazy for me and since the April Readathon, my life has completely changed. I got married in June and moved in July and got a puppy in August. I’ve had a lot of time to reflect on things and as I was doing so, I was thinking about readathon. I’ve been participating in readathon for 10+ years now and since that time A LOT has changed. One thing that I used to love doing was the hourly mini-challenges (not that I don’t also love this format. I spent an hour and knocked out the ones I could do). So I decided that for the last few hours, I will be posting a new mini-challenge for you to participate in the comment section, if you should like. There is no prize, this is just for fun.

The first mini-challenge idea that I thought of is a game of Would You Rather. I’m going to start by posting one would you rather. Answer which you would rather do in the comment section and if you have a would you rather post that as well. Then people can come and answer my scenario and any additional ones that are posted. The next hour will be a totally different game so make sure you come back 🙂

Would you rather only be allowed to read one book for the rest of your life (any one book of your choosing) or be allowed to read whatever books you want but after you finish each book you have to read the Twilight series before you can start a different book?

Hour 21 – OUTSIDE

Hey y’all, still Flavia here. So we are 21 hours into this readathon and for some of us, OUTSIDE is a foreign word by now.

So I challenge you to interact with the outdoors. For us Europeans and people even further to the East going outside can be a great option to listen to an audiobook or even keep reading physically. (Only if you want to obviously.)

via GIPHY

But for a lot of you it is the middle of the night or it might be raining or you might just wanna stay in.

via GIPHY

So consider letting the outside in for a bit. Open the window, get some of that great stuff called oxygen.

via GIPHY

Or even just look outside. What’s going on there? Is it eerily empty and quiet? Let me know how it’s going for you.

You can also find me on twitter @misselectia or Youtube and Instagram at flaviaaalouise.

Hour 20 – stats and numbers

Hey welcome to the last sixth of the readathon. My name is Flavia and I am a reader from Germany, you can find me on twitter @misselectia or Instagram and Youtube at flaviaaalouise.

I’m a huge statistics nerd and love to track my reading. Yearly, monthly but also specifically for readathons.

I track everything from pages read to the number of books on my tbr as well as diversity and location of purchase.

How do you feel about tracking? Is it something that stresses you out?

via GIPHY

Or does it warm your heart like it does mine?

via GIPHY

I also want to mention that there is so much you can track. If pages and time read make you feel bad, maybe try cups of tea/coffee or maybe even time spend with self-care.

I hope you’re reading is going well and even if it’s not, don’t beat yourself up. And always remember to be kind to yourself.

Hour 19 – Oh I Think That I’ve Found Myself A Cheerleader

*Drumroll* We’re 19 hours into this, how’s everyone doing? Need motivation? After all, there’s one solution…corny, I know, but you snorted for just a second, dear reader. Gotcha.

A big part of the readathon is the cheer squad. I usually take some time to go on the hashtag on various social media platforms and just cheer on as many people from around the world that are participating. Readathons, for me, are a worldwide bubble of kindred spirits, and I love cheering and being cheered on. It’s so hard to carve out time to read, so even if you’ve managed a whole five minutes of it during this event, I AM SO DANG PROUD OF YOU MY GORGEOUS AND AMAZEBALL CUPCAKE YOU ARE A FRIGGIN’ ROCKSTAR AND DON’T LET ANYONE TELL YOU OTHERWISE.

Bam, you’re it! Take a minute to cheer on some of your fellow readers on your favorite social media platform/s. I promise you, you might be making someone’s readathon experience. A little encouragement doesn’t hurt anyone, and we’re all in this together, after all.

This is my last hour hosting for this round of Dewey’s and it was so fun hanging with y’all! Cheers to Andi and Heather for, once again, putting together a fabulous event. Now back to my books for the last few hours! If you’d like to chat more you can find me on Twitter, Instagram, and Litsy.

Cheers, darlings — until next time.

Hour 18 – Bookish T-Shirts: Wearing Your Heart On Your Sleeve

Hope y’all are still with us as we slide into Hour 18! Let’s talk bookish t-shirts. I realized a few years ago that the only t-shirts I owned were bookish ones, and that stands true even today. I can’t help it— I know it’s consumerism and capitalism sells us this lie and everything BUT LOOK AT THEM PRETTIES. I am a book nerd, loud and proud, and for me, a huge part of that includes taking joy in literary t-shirts, yes, even the punny ones. My Instagram features a whole bunch of them, and in honor of the readathon I’m wearing one of my favorites:

You can find this on GifGirrl.

Now that I’ve shown you mine, show me yours! Tag me on your chosen social media platform (I’m @TheShrinkette on everything) so that I can applaud your literary swag. Nope, it’s not a contest, I just wanna expand my to-be-bought list.

Hour 16 – Let’s get moving!

Hello readathoners, it’s still Valentina from 100-books-a-year. (you can also find me tweeting @ValeGeneva)

Why 100 non-fiction books? A friend once joked that as fast reader, and I am, I could at least make my skill usefulI by reviewing all I read, so that they don’t have to. Here I am. A brand new book blogger!

Anyhow, how are you feeling?

I have been reading all day yesterday and since I just woke up one hour ago today, I feel the need for a good stretch. You might use one too.

I am a runner, and I have just started practising Yoga, but I also like to dance around the house blasting music (definitely not at 6 o’clock in the morning), or clean the house and the garden when I have accumulated rage to get rid of.

What’s your favorite physical activity?

What music do you play?

After reading only non fiction for the last 4 months, and non stop today, I really wish I could go and clean up something. I realized that I desperately need to mix up my book selection, and add some lighter books in my list, otherwise in another 8 months, I will be completely disillusioned with humanity.

I ‘could’ also pick up a really good novel, but it’s hard enough to reach 100 books without detours … and I don’t trust myself not to run to the bookstore and never turn back.

What do you usually read?

What is your favorite ‘light and funny’ non-fiction author?

Help a fellow reader!

I wish you all a great continuation of the Red-a-thon! I am going to get moving and walk to breakfast!

Hour 15 – Wake up and smell the coffe (if you are in Europe)

How are you all doing? Are you energized? Sleepy? Caffeinated?

I am Valentina, your co-host for the next 2 hours. Are you wondering ‘how can she be so perky after 15 hours of reading ?’ You are not the only one. I am asking this to myself.

The truth is, I live in Switzerland, and it’s 5 o’clock in the morning here, I just woke up from a nap and I am drinking 2 coffees at once (head over to twitter for photographic evidence).
In my daily life, I am a mom and I work full time (and I volunteer). This is my first readathon, and so far, I’ve been living my dream. Coffee, tea, snacks, no household chores and reading as much as I want! I wish this  existed when I was younger, I could have just told my mom to let me read at three o’clock in the morning, (‘it’s a read-a-thon’) instead of sneaking under the blankets with my pocket lamp, after lights out.

(Hi Mom! Sorry Mom!)

As I am staying away from novels and fiction this year ( curious? Come back in one hour for the next post or check out  100-books-a-year,) finding enough interesting non fiction books to read was a challenge. Twitter came to my rescue, and suggested non-fiction graphic novels, and my life will never be the same (and neither will my wallet).

Are you also fans?

Which ones are your favorites?

Did you also read under the covers?

After spending the whole afternoon and evening in-door yesterday, I have decided to go out (just as soon as the rest of civilization is awake) and walk to the nearest breakfast caffe’, and spoil myself. What about you?

Where have you been reading today?

If this is also your first Read-a-thon, what was the part you most enjoy?

Hour 14 – Where are you at?

Hi all, Paula here again. I’m joining you from my home on the rain-soaked Pacific Northwest Coast of Washington State, USA. Reading from my comfy spot on the couch with November the cat and Bogart the dog. Where are you reading at right now? Are you alone, with family, friends or pets? Do you prefer solitude when you read or are you one of those people who can read in a crowd?

Everyone is different, I know. Personally, I can read anywhere, as long as folks around me recognize that I’m reading and don’t try to talk to me. I am developing what I call my “Resting Book Face”. As the daughter of a polite mother, I try really, really hard not to roll my eyes and frown if someone interrupts my reading, but I’m not always successful.

How are you holding up? Hour 14 already? Stand up and stretch, walk around a little, pat yourself on the back and get back to it. Book Lovers Unite, you’ve all got this.
