Hour 8

We’ve reached hour 8, and another of our scheduled hour-long reading sprints. 8 hours is a full workday, so if you have not yet finished and healthy food, perhaps grab a healthy snack and some water or other non-sugary beverage to enjoy while you read for this next hour. Stand up, stretch, take some nice, deep breaths, and then grab your book for our Hour 8 reading sprint.

Ready? On your marks …. Get set …. Read!

Hour 8 – The Fun Continues

a blue number eight with googly eyes

Hello again! It’s me, Cass. Welcome to hour eight. You’ve already made it so far. Go you.

I want to extend a major thank you, thank you, thank you to Andi and Heather for all their hard-work and dedication to readers and the readathon all these years. You have done such a service to Dewey’s memory. Thank you!

Enjoy the rest of the readathon, everyone. May your books always be five-stars and your snacks always be delicious.

Hour 8 – Time to Power Up!

Hey there readathon warriors! Naomi (@bookladyreads) here, and I’m back for hour 8. Man, we are killing it, aren’t we? Eight hours is a long time to be reading fairly consistently. You may find yourself getting a little sleepy and need a little pick me up.

This is the perfect time to take a break to get a snack and a drink. I love eating snacks and drinking coffee (hot or cold) while reading. Cashews and almonds are my daily go-to reading snack, but I also love a good bag of kettle-cooked chips, and if I’m feeling super naughty…… OREO DOUBLE STUFFED COOKIES!!!!! These cookies are like a gift to the universe. My drink of choice is coffee. Either coffee I brew myself at home or Starbucks. I don’t know about you, but my current drink addiction is that Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew.

What is your snack and drink situation today? What snacks and drinks do you prefer to help power you through a readathon?

Hour 8 – Mixing it Up

Hey there, I’m Ellie from Curiosity Killed the Bookworm and I’ll be your host for the next two hours. That’s right, they handed me the keys to the kingdom. Muhahahahahaha!

via GIPHY

It’s hour eight already, for those of us not tackling intimidating tomes, that’s enough time to have read a book. Well done you! Pat yourself on the back, have a dance, swivel those eyes!

If you felt like today was the perfect time to tackle It or Les Mis and are now regretting your life choices, don’t worry, you can grab something else. Your TBR is not set in stone!

Did you forget to include some short reads on your TBR? Never fear, you could read a web comic for a break or hunt down a free short story like those offered by Tor and The Book Smugglers. It all counts.

What have you read so far? Are you having fun?

Hour 8 – Book Friends Are the Best Friends

Hi everyone, and welcome to hour eight of the readathon! It’s me, your old friend, Cass de bonjour. One of my favorite things about the readathon is that it is run by two people who are not only extremely well organized and smart and talented and good at the internet, but who are also best friends. I think their long-lasting friendship creates a wonderful foundation for the rest of us to celebrate the friendships we’ve grown and created–and are creating, right now!–during the ‘thon.

There’s something about readathon day that removes the usual boundaries from talking to strangers.  I originally found my way to the book blogging community through the spring readathon in 2009. I continue to participate because I love knowing that for 24 hours twice a year, I can talk about books and snacks and cute animals to any of 1,800+ people who love reading so much they’ll set aside an entire day for it.

Books and book people are the best, aren’t they? My challenge to you this hour is to comment or reply or like a post from someone you don’t already follow. Team friendship!

Hour 8 – Readathon Buddies!

Woo hoo! Everyone’s doing so well! Keep it up! This is my last hour for co-hosting and I hope I’ve been doing an okay job. After this I’ll be passing it off to Cass.

One aspect of Read-A-Thon that I love is when people post pictures of their Read-A-Thon Buddies. They’re usually pets who are there to give you an excuse not to get up and stop reading. I don’t have any pets myself, but I’ve been tempted to “borrow” our neighbor’s’ puppy just for the day. I’ve also heard stories of Read-A-Thoners who stayed up and had their pets give them weird looks like “You’re supposed to be asleep. This is supposed to be MY time.” Do you have any stories or funny moments from your pets? Let me know!

Of course, they can also provide yet another distraction. There can be so many distractions when you’re trying to read. Fortunately, you’ve got hundreds of people to help you out over at #readathon! This community is so amazingly fun and supportive. I’m of the shyest people in the world, but I happily participate with Read-A-Thoners. Y’all are awesome! And if you find yourself getting tired and need some encouragement to keep going, get on Twitter and ask for help. Plenty of advice and encouragement to be found!

May your day be filled with fun moments, in real life and in your books!

Hour 8 – 33.3% There

fyi-15

Readerbuzz

It’s Hour Eight and we are approaching the 33.3% mark for the readathon. Hi, I’m Deb Nance at Readerbuzz and I’m happy to be your host for this hour.

To urge you on, let me share some stats about the average reader:

*Over 1/4 of all American adults didn’t read a single book last year.

*Most readers don’t get past page 18 in a book they have purchased.

Those were pretty surprising statistics to me. And you are definitely doing better than that, right?

Finally, let me paraphrase author Gore Vidal: “Half the American people don’t read….Half have never voted for president. One hopes it is the same half.”

Good luck! See you on down the road.

Hour 8 – Move it, Move it

Amanda ,again, and it is my last hour of co-hosting. Sad face.

My favorite co-hosting duty is to pick an utterly ridiculous exercise video and encourage folks to get up and move. This one may even be better than prancercise.

Turn on some T. Swift and shake it off. Crank up some Snoop Dogg (erm.. Snoop Lion) and drop it like its hot. Stretch. Drink some water. Rest your eyes. You’ll feel like hell tomorrow if you don’t.

If you don’t want to stop your reading groove then maybe try an audio book or do some stretches while you watch your favorite movie adaptation.

Bottom line: change things up a little or you may give you at the midway point!

If the links below don’t work immediately, forgive us! Sometimes the permalinks we receive expire or need updating at the last moment. We’re on it!
