Hour 12

We’re at the Half-Way Hour, Hour 12, which is our next hour-long reading sprint. How have you done so far? Still awake? Still reading? If your eyes are getting tired, maybe try a graphic novel, or poetry, or read a play out loud to your pets, or listen to an audiobook(but actually listen- using audiobooks as background noise doesn’t count for a sprint). If you have tricks you’ve discovered for maximizing your sprint performance, leave them in the comments so your fellow readers can improve their own reading sprint experience.

Ok, have you picked your book? Great!

On your marks …. Get set …. Read!

Mid-Event Survey!

  • What are you reading right now?
  • How many books have you read so far?
  • What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the readathon?
  • Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
  • What surprises you most about the readathon, so far?

Hour 12 – Who are You Reading With?

Welcome to hour 12 readers, I’m Paula ( @kneadyreader ) back with you for this last hour before the halfway point.

Crazy time to be alive, isn’t it?

Even for those of us who are homebody introverts, this is starting to seem like a little TOO much alone time.

Are you reading all by yourself today? Is there anyone else at home, reading or not, keeping you company? Are you trying to connect with other readers, via social media, talk, text or video chat?

My readathon buddy

Here at my place, it is just me and November, the kitty. She isn’t much of a conversationalist, really doesn’t respond to questions or care if I wax poetic about my reading material, but she does her part to keep my lap warm and protected.

Who are you reading with today? Who do you WISH you were reading with today? Who do you WISH wasn’t at home with you during quarantine so you could just read in peace? Let me know in the comments and at the end of the readathon I will choose a random comment and contact you about a prize.

For now, move around a little, get the blood pumping and get back to your reading.

Hour 12 – Plot-driven versus Character-driven Books

Hi there,

This is Juli again from ich lese. I thought we could talk about plot-driven versus character-driven books during this hour. Simply as that, do you have a preference? I am a huge mood reader, and while I generally prefer character-driven or language-based stories, I have a real craving for a page-turner once in a while, especially in the winter months or during vacation.

I know, ideally, we have a bit of both, but for this argument, let’s just assume you have to choose one over the other. Give me your thoughts in the comments below! And also give me your examples! This girl needs more books on her TBR 😉

Hour 12 – Half Way There!

It’s Julianne from Outlandish Lit BACK for a final hour of readathon co-hosting goodness. We are officially at the half-way point of the readathon!!

In this day and age, you’ve got to multi-task to survive. There are SO MANY things going on in everybody’s lives. You’ve got your real life, you’ve got your online life, you’ve got your job, you’ve got your side hustle, you’ve got your other side hustle, you have to sleep sometimes, etc. etc.

p much me every day

So I just want to commend you all for taking some time for yourself to focus on one thing that you love to do: reading. And hey, if you’ve got to multi-task just to keep a household running or pets alive (or maybe you have to work a little today like I did this morning), just know that we’re all still so proud of you for finding whatever time you can to participate in the readathon. You’re all amazing!! Let us know how you’re doing with the mid-event survey below. Make some friends by using hashtag #readathon wherever you’re social media-ing. I’ll be on the @readathon twitter one more hour if you want to kvetch about things getting in the way of your reading or tell me all about your accomplishments!!

Hour 12 – Coffee Is Your Best Friend

fyi-10

HOUR 12 IS UPON US, MY FRIENDS! And if you’re looking at this post right now, you’re kick-butt because you’ve made it to the halfway point and you’re still here! YAY YOU!

I apologize to the non-coffee drinkers amongst us, but right about now you’re needing something to keep you going! Since everything else is illegal, YAY FOR COFFEE!  Not hating on tea but coffee is just boss, and this post is to encourage coffee-lovers to pour another cup! There’s actually a lot of encouraging research pointing to the fact that coffee is pretty darn good for us–in moderation, of course.

giphy-3

If you’d like to take a break and read about coffee (it’s still reading and it counts!), feel free to check out the links below:

giphy-5

DISCLAIMER: Of course, friends, don’t drink more coffee than is right for you. And remember to rest and sleep up well when the ‘thon concludes! We don’t want anyone getting sick or having severe read-a-thon jetlag. This post does NOT in any way encourage the over-consumption of coffee or caffeine. Enjoy responsibly! 😉

Enjoy your cup and get back to kickin’ those pages! It’s been fun hosting Hours 11 & 12 but I’m signing off. Now I must get back to my own reading and my lovely java juice. Cheers!

Hour 12 – You Can’t Read All Day…If You Don’t Start in the Morning!

FYI (4)

ReaderbuzzHowdy! Hola, amigos. Hi, y’all!

It’s me, Deb Nance from Readerbuzz. I’m here to co-host the Readathon for the next two hours.

Am I ever ready to co-host?! I spent last week at the Texas Library Association Conference in Houston. I read books. I talked books. I ate and slept books.

dewey 6

Here are the 275 free books I brought home from the conference. I certainly have a few books to choose from during the readathon!

One session I attended at TLA was moderated by Teri Lesesne and Donalyn Miller. You know these folks, don’t you? They are the Nerdy Book Club. They shared some cool reading thoughts with us and I just had to share some with you:

And…

Give yourself a huge round of applause. You made it halfway! Awesome. On to the Mid-Event Survey Mini-Challenge!

See you next hour!

Take care,

Deb Nance 🙂
