I looked it up last night. I still have the emails between Shesten (the previous host), Andi, and me. Andi and I have co-hosted the Readathon for 7.5 years. That’s around 17 readathons. It feels endlessly long and oh, so short. And I have so many memories.
There was the year the site crashed during the event and almost killed me. The year we had over 3,000 readers and we were still so new that it caused massive (needless) panic. The year we waited until the last minute to get going and Andi ran (almost all) of the shindig on her own. The year she stayed up the whole 24 hours. The year we found out a few authors read with us (I will never tell who, do not ask) and gave away books during the event. The first time we trended on Twitter.
There were endless weeks of prep. Staying up late drafting posts. Begging for prizes, begging for help with cohosting, begging for cheerleaders, making sure all the links worked, and more. Lots of coffee was consumed.
Then there is all the excitement leading up to the event. The plans shared, the many photos of potential reads, your precious reading buddies, menus, snacks, drinks, the times you’ve gotten together with friends and family in your homes and hotel rooms, and the list goes on. It all comes down to the love of reading and who doesn’t get a tear in their eye just thinking of it?
It was all done with love.
