Hour 7 – Like it, Love it, DNF it!

Welcome to Hour 7! I’m Naomi, @bookladyreads on Instagram (my main home. I LIVE HERE), Twitter (my summer vacation home), Litsy (my weekend getaway), and Goodreads (the place I stalk all throughout the day).

Let’s talk DECISIONS! We’ve all presumably been reading for the last seven hours. Are you loving or regretting the book(s) you chose to read for this readathon? Hey, listen, there’s no shame here. This is a safe place.

Sometimes we select books we think will be perfect for a readathon, and then you begin reading and realize it was most definitely a mistake.

And sometimes you read a book and find there couldn’t have been a more perfect book.

Hour 6 – Food! Glorious Food!

Noms! It’s about lunch time for me, and oh I love the foods I get during Readathon. I always go for a big meals so that I can limit the snacking. Then I go ahead and snack anyways. In my defense, Hubby is an amazing cook and I bake a really nice cheesecake.

It’s been joked about a lot, but I really would enjoy a Readathon themed cookbook. From the very advanced, full meals, to the “walk to the 7-11 and pick up a soda” kinds of recipes. Your cooking and baking skills wouldn’t matter so much as just sharing a recipe with a supportive community. Eh, it’s something we’ll kick down the curb for a while yet.

In the meantime, what are you eating for your meals/snacks this fine day? Do you pick foods based on how easy it is to read while eating? I’ve had to forgo a few snacks because I can’t eat and read at the same time.

Hour 5 – It’s High Noon

Okay, it’s only noon here in the Eastern time zone but I figured, what better way to kick off my turn at the helm? Hi! I’m Rachel Noel and I’ll be your host for the next couple of hours.

We’ve been at this Readathon for a few hours now. Have you gotten up and walked around a bit? Have you been drinking water? Have you had time to eat? Do I sound enough like a worried grandmother? I’m sure you’ve heard this a lot if you’ve been looking up Readathon tips, but it’s true: Self-Care is Important! Heck, it’s one of the reasons I look forward to Readathon. You get to spend the entire day reading, resting and doing something you enjoy. Guilt free!

So make sure you take care of yourself and take the time to rest up and read your fill. And if you can’t read all day that’s fine! Part of taking care of yourself is not being yourself up over these things. Welcome to the Readathon, where you can read without fear of judgement!

Hour 4 – Let’s talk spooky books!

Hey guys, it’s still Bruna here. How is your reading going so far?

It’s almost Halloween time! Do you celebrate Halloween?

Nobody really cares about this date here in Brazil, but I do like to put some decorations around the house and read some spooky books to get in the vibe.

I don’t typically like to read anything to scary, but I do enjoy a book with an atmosphere of mystery or with some witches! I also enjoy watching some classic Halloween movies like Hocus Pocus or The Nightmare Before Christmas!

Some books I’ve read that fit this vibe would be: The Wicked Deep, The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, The Hazel Wood, The Girl from The Other Side (manga), Beautiful Darkness (comic).

What are some books you would recommend for this type of Halloween vibe? And are you reading anything spooky for this October readathon? Let me know in the comments!

You can also always come chat books with me over on twitter or instagram!

Hour 3 – Sort Your Book Into a Hogwarts House

Hello!

It’s Bruna here. How is the start of the readathon treating everyone? I hope you are enjoying your book and remembering to stay healthy!

I thought for this hour we could do a fun challenge and try to sort our books into Hogwarts Houses (sorry if you are not a HP fan). Not the characters, but the overall book. There are loads of lists online that I always see suggesting books for each Hogwarts House, and I always think it is fun to imagine which House the book I am reading would be in.

Here are some examples of books I sorted:

Slytherin – (my house!) values ambition, cunning and resourcefulness
books I would sort into it: The Winner’s Curse series, Ninth House, The Cruel Prince (and the whole series)

Ravenclaw – values intelligence, knowledge, and wit.
books I would sort into it: Strange The Dreamer, The Raven Cycle, The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle

Hufflepuff – values hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty, and fair play.
books I would sort into it: With the Fire On High, Anne of Green Gables, Since You’ve Been Gone

Gryffindor – values bravery, daring, nerve, and chivalry.
books I would sort into it: The Hunger Games, Graceling, The Hate U Give

Hope you think this is fun! Tell me in the comments which House would you sort the book (or books) you are currently reading into.

You can also chat with me about books on twitter or instagram.

Hour 2 – Blind Date with a Book

Have you ever done this? I haven’t and I really wish I would. I especially think it would be kind of cool today. If you get in a rut, and can’t get into a book, try it. Fix it so you can’t see the book you’re picking and just dive it. If it doesn’t stick, try it again. Free range reading y’all. It’s all the rage.

Hour 1 – Let Me Introduce You to My Friend Dewey

It occurred to me this past couple of weeks, that many, MANY of you did not have the pleasure of knowing Dewey, the wonderful lady who created this event and who we continue to celebrate twice a year.

Dewey: I would give up sleep, food, and conversation with other humans before fiction. I would almost definitely choose being homeless before choosing to be fictionless. I’m thinking about water. That would give me only three remaining days for fiction, but could be worth it.

As you can see from the quote above, she was one of our tribe. She helped create our tribe. If you are or have ever been a book blogger, you have felt her influence whether you knew it or not. She was an early adopter of blogging and she helped create book blogging as we know/knew it. She was a friend and mentor to so many in the book blogging world and Andi and I are so glad to help keep her memory alive. Here’s to Dewey!
