Hour 7 – Like it, Love it, DNF it!

Welcome to Hour 7! I’m Naomi, @bookladyreads on Instagram (my main home. I LIVE HERE), Twitter (my summer vacation home), Litsy (my weekend getaway), and Goodreads (the place I stalk all throughout the day).

Let’s talk DECISIONS! We’ve all presumably been reading for the last seven hours. Are you loving or regretting the book(s) you chose to read for this readathon? Hey, listen, there’s no shame here. This is a safe place.

Sometimes we select books we think will be perfect for a readathon, and then you begin reading and realize it was most definitely a mistake.

And sometimes you read a book and find there couldn’t have been a more perfect book.

  1. #teamperfectreadathonbook Rereading A Dog’s Purpose and A Dog’s Journey so I can read the new book in the series later today!

  2. I’m definitely not in love with the book I’m reading. I still think the premise is interesting, though, so I’m carrying on. The story is told from three perspectives. One is practically giving me hives; the second makes me switch back-and-forth between wanting to slap him and wanting to give him the benefit of the doubt; and the third is actually enjoyable in spite of having to figure out what she’s really getting at (she speaks in riddle-like patterns often).

  3. I hate to dnf. Almost feels like I’m wasting more time if I don’t finish a book than if I finish a half bad book. Also, I can better argue that a book is bad if I finish it. On the other hand, it may take several months before I finish a book I really want to dnf

  4. One for #teamperfectreadathonbook: I loved Ye Olde History by Carl Kunath much more than I expected to. I have another, longer book he’s written about the early days of spelunking in Texas that wasn’t on my TBR stack for today to begin with, but I’m adding it!

I was enjoying The Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson tremendously when the read-a-thon started, but now I’m tired of it. This has happened before: I’ve been reading it in spurts since early summer and keep putting it down.

#teamreadathonbookregret if it doesn’t pick up soon: Unearned Pleasures and Other Stories by Ursula Hegi is way too sad. I’m finishing the fifth story of 14, so it has a chance to get better.

  5. Actually, I don’t remember enjoying my books as much as I am during this readathon. In the past there’s always one little bastard that ruins the vibe, but so far, it has been incredible 🙂

  6. I just finished reading Turtles All The Way Down by John Green. I started reading it a few days ago and always felt guilty putting it down to do other adult things (like sleeping) so I was soooo looking forward to reading it today. I finished it about 20 minutes ago, and boy was it yummy!
