THANK YOU for 10 Amazing Years

Another readathon has closed, and this one was pretty special for a lot of reasons. For one, this event has been going on for 10 years, and that’s practically 100 in blogging and social media years.

Of course, we have to thank Dewey for her wonderful vision and skills for bringing the community together. I know she would be thrilled with this reading holiday that happens every six months.

Just as important, we have to thank you. The people who decide to take a crazy chance on 24 hours of reading every season. The people who put things on hold to help. All of you make this possible.Β

Case in point, for the first time ever, I was REALLY out of commission for the first…oh…third? half? of readathon day. I struggle with anxiety, and it bit me right in the keister yesterday. I was down for the count. But you know what? The event went off without a hitch because of all the people involved who make this thing run like a well-oiled machine.

Thank you…

Heather, co-organizer and best bestie
Kathryn, Facebook and Goodreads empress, forever closing-hours co-host
Gabby, our newest Goodreads wrangler and help-any-way-she-canner
Kelly, Instagram guru
Liberty, Litsy rock star
Kendra, co-host and mini-challenge host
Elizabeth, co-host who saves me every time from one of the late shifts
Dana, co-host and prize wrangler
Cass, co-host and Twitter badass
Rachel Noel, co-host, Twitter wizard, mini-challenge maven, cheerleader, all-around selfless human
Julianne, co-host and mini-challenge pinch hitter

You all really have no idea who much you mean to this event, to me personally, and to all the people who take part.

I never have enough room to thank everyone: the many of you who donate prizes to make the readathon a little brighter for another reader, the ones of you who leap into hosting Twitter parties, those of you who are whipping the community into a reading lather on every imaginable social platform.

Y’all are just awesome. All of you. This event would be nothing without you.

Thank you, thank you, and we’re looking forward to many more years.

Oh, right. You want to know when the NEXT readathon will be!

April 28, 2018. We’ll see you there with our books at the ready!

  1. Thank you so much, everyone! All of your hard work really shows, this is such a wonderful event! It’s been a great readathon, I can’t wait to see you guys in April! Happy Reading! πŸ€—πŸŽ‰

  2. I didn’t make it through the whole thing even though I had very much planned to. To be fair, I had an online midterm the morning of the event and one today. But that’s alright, it was, once again, a total blast. It’s truly one of my favorite holidays of the year πŸ˜‰
I can’t remember the year of my first read-a-thon but I know there was barely anything close to the social media we have today. I even got through the full 24 hours that year. In later years, I was usually working weekends and unable to do it. The past few years I moved into a new home (our first home) and got married. Life was busy. I was finishing school then figuring out things. This year was my first read-a-thon in my own home. I felt so lucky. It always manages to rekindle my love of books. I love seeing what everyone else is reading and what everyone’s favorite books are. It’s such a lovely community.
Already marked April 28th on my calendar!!!
Today, I finished what I had to do and I’m going to enjoy the rest of my day reading πŸ™‚ Oh, I had to skip my morning run because, during the October 2017 Readathon, I broke my toe. Definitely memorable.

  3. Thank you all for organizing such a wonderful event again! And thank you, Andi, for being raw and vulnerable with your post. I commend you!

  4. This readathon was SOO relaxed and so much fun!! πŸ™‚ you girls did everything you could to keep us comfortable and awake lol. This was my first time participating and I can’t wait for next year. ❀️❀️❀️

  5. Huge thanks go out to all of you! Everyone involved in this now-huge undertaking did a FANTASTIC job! These 24-hour readathons are such fun thanks to you all. πŸ™‚

I’m still searching for that right balance between social stuff and actual reading-of-books, but I always have lots of fun, even if I don’t get nearly as much done in the reading arena as I wanted! πŸ™‚

So thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! ❀

  6. Thanks for keeping this going. I’ve always participated and have even tried a version with my high school English students, only they can read for four hours. They love it. I’m just glad we have a great community or readers who come together!

  7. Very proud to have taken part this year, and have written a warm up post with my memories of the event. Will be there next year.

  8. Thank you for hosting, it was fun! Someone won the prize I donated, but I don’t who or where to send it. I imagine someone will contact me at some point?
