Hour 15 – Jane Austen Lives Again Giveaway

FYI (10)

13055568_10103964362507677_3085506646222294572_n

Okay ladies and gentlemen I don’t know if you have taken notice but I obviously have slipped into something more suitable for Hour 15. I’m now wearing more appropriate attire for perusing one of my treasured Austen volumes. Vintage Red Roses seemed more appropriate for this lovely illustrated edition of Emma. How about you? How are you reading? Cozy? Cute? Pajamas? I’m about to know…..

Those of you who have been readathon-ing with us for a few years might remember I always go all Janeite for one of my hosting hours. Every year I try to help my fellow Austen lovers get to enjoy an opportunity for a little more Jane in their life by introducing new works and authors of the Austenesque genre. This year I was able to get the fabulous Jane Odiwe to join us and she has been gracious enough to offer a copy of her newest work Jane Austen Lives Again  to one lucky readathon reader.

The giveaway entry time period will only last for Hour 15. I will choose a winner randomly and announce at the end of the hour on this post. To enter simply submit a picture of how you are fashionably reading during this readathon in the comments below. Don’t be shy! This giveaway is INTL so everyone is welcome to participate. Please leave a twitter handle or email just in case so I can find you if you are the lucky recipient of a new copy of Jane Austen Lives AgainAnd if you are a Austen lover make sure and check out Austen Effusions where all of Jane Odiwe’s works can be viewed along with her fabulous blog Jane Austen Sequeals. We want to thank her again for generously trying to make one lucky readathoner’s night a little merrier.

Jane-Odiwe

So I simply can’t wait to see how you are lounging or styling for readathon! It’s all in good fun and as a librarian I just can’t help but want to give people books. So post your pics below. Then get a proper cup of tea and settle in for the next hour. I will be passing you off to your next co-host Dana so I do wish you good luck in the following hours. Remember we only get to do this together twice a year so let’s make it count. I’ll be reading with you.

Hour 14 – Let’s Party

FYI (8)

Greetings everyone! This is Courtney at @stiletostrytime getting ready to  co-host you for the next hour or so. Hope you are still going strong but if not I have a little something to perk you up. I’m sure you knew we had to slip some Prince in here at some point. For me here in EST it’s 9:00 pm so it seemed appropriate to have us wake up a bit by partying like it’s 1999. And as we party we can enjoy the out of this world gifts he left us as a musician and a masterful artist of words. So get up, maybe get moving…we have a ways to go to finish this readathon.

Speaking of readathon…what are you reading right now? Me, well I’m settled in for a little dose of Game of Thrones. I have a confession though. I have a bit of a legging problem. My husband might say it is an addiction. If possible I like my leggings to match various things so for readathon if I am reading of Jon Snow, I have to rock my wolves right?  #TeamStark and all that. What are you wearing this readathon?

I’lll give you a hint for Hour 15 as this is a bit of a clue. I have a surprise coming up next hour so this pic might have something to do with how you enter….until then keep reading. You got this! And don’t for get to do the mid-event survey below. You’ve made it this far. And enter all finished books in the database. You’ve earned it.

Hour 13 – Fight Evil. Read Books.

FYI (7)

Readerbuzz

It’s Lucky Hour 13 and I’m back for one more hour with you. Getting past Wednesday is the hardest part of the work week, right? Well, you have done the Readathon equivalent.

I told you last hour about one session I attended at the Texas Library Association Conference last week that was moderated by Teri Lesesne and Donalyn Miller from the Nerdy Book Club. Here’s a couple more of the reading thoughts they shared with us at the conference:

FYI (4)

ReaderbuzzHowdy! Hola, amigos. Hi, y’all!

It’s me, Deb Nance from Readerbuzz. I’m here to co-host the Readathon for the next two hours.

Am I ever ready to co-host?! I spent last week at the Texas Library Association Conference in Houston. I read books. I talked books. I ate and slept books.

dewey 6

Here are the 275 free books I brought home from the conference. I certainly have a few books to choose from during the readathon!

One session I attended at TLA was moderated by Teri Lesesne and Donalyn Miller. You know these folks, don’t you? They are the Nerdy Book Club. They shared some cool reading thoughts with us and I just had to share some with you:

Hour 11 – An Unofficial Challenge

FYI (22)

Welcome to HOUR 11! This is Andi from Estella’s Revenge and you should be feeling pretty darn proud of yourself! We’re nearing the halfway point, and things are really heating up!

I have an unofficial challenge for you this hour. Ready? There are a lot of people participating who are not on Twitter, so they don’t have “official” cheerleaders following them around being peppy.

Geni Cheers

I urge you to do a good #Readathon deed and go scroll through this list of our non-Twitter participants and give a few of them a cheer! Spreading a little Readathon spirit is always a good idea!

See you again late tonight! Until then, let there be SPIRIT!

Hour 10 – Don’t Lose Your Mind

Hello Readathoners! This is Allison from The Book Wheel and this is my 4th Readathon but my first time co-hosting and I am so excited to be here with all of you. I don’t know about you, but every time the event rolls around I find myself equally excited and wholly unprepared. What will I read? What will I eat? And perhaps more importantly, how do I politely ask my husband to leave me alone for the weekend?

As overwhelming as these questions seem at the time, they are actually quite easy to answer. Whether you’re participating in your first or fourth Readathon, here are my tips to get through it without losing your mind, starving, or ruining your relationships. I promise you – by the end you’ll feel like this:

1. What will I read?

This one is the hardest for me because I’m a mood reader and my Twitter feed is flooded with amazing book recommendations in the days leading up to the event. I’ve learned that it’s perfectly okay to have a TBR list and then toss it aside. Sure, there’s some guilt the first time around but it gets easier, I promise.

2. What will I eat?

I hate to cook so this one is pretty easy – anything that doesn’t require an appliance (although a microwave is okay sometimes). I usually pick up a veggie plate, cheese and crackers, popcorn, and some fruit….. and then eat mostly junk food. Oh, and coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. I find that I’m a muncher on Readathon days so anything that I can grab without lifting my head out of the book I’m reading is gold.

3. How do I politely ask people to leave me alone?

Thankfully, most of my friend and family understand that books trump almost everything else. Over the past few Readathons, my husband has learned that it’s probably best to work overtime and sleep in the spare bedroom during the event (3 am reading while munching on popcorn isn’t conducive to good sleep). This year he actually did my snack shopping for me so I think we may finally have a good routine down.

So what about you? How do you decide what to read? Do you toss your TBR aside or do you stick to it? Do you kick friends and family out of the house? And, of course, what’s your go-to snack?

Happy Hour 8, Readers! It’s Shannon from River City Reading here to usher you through the next few hours of reading. You’re getting there! Did you know there’s an extra bonus to all these books? A ton of learning! It’s probably not something we think of all that often during the Readathon, but there’s so much knowledge flying around. What have you learned so far today thanks to the books you picked up during the Readathon?
