Welcome to Hour 24!!! This is Kate from Kate’s Book Nook. I will be your co-host for the final hour. We have made it, ya’ll. We have done this!!!! As per my traditions (I have a lot of traditions) I have included the video for We Are the Champions because, to me, if you have even read for just five minutes, you are a participant and you have done a good job! I am so proud of you. I really hope that you will all be back to join us in April.

Random Facts of the Hour
Anyone who has ever made these late night hours knows that I love to include random facts of the hour. So here are a couple random facts for this hour:
- People in India are the world’s biggest readers, spending an average 10.7 hours a week.
- The slowest-selling book is reputedly a 1716 translation of the New Testament from Coptic into Latin. The last of its 500 copies was sold in 1907.
- One in five adults around the world cannot read or write, with the highest rates in South and West Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.

Which hour was most daunting for you? I’d say between 2 and 3. That was a really rough time to stay awake.
Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year? I really enjoyed 84, Charing Cross Road. I wish the sequel was an ebook.
Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? I wasn’t sure if I actually needed to put links in to stuff on Twitter, as this is the first time I’ve used it. Maybe a short FAQ about using each of the main social media sites for this?
What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon? I liked the community spirit on Twitter, it was neat to see all the people in this with me.

This Is How You Die is great. It’s sort of science-fiction-y but I’m not a big SF fan myself and I loved it. It’s sometimes funny, sometimes sad, metaphysical, packed with suspense… I can’t think of a person I wouldn’t recommend it too.

This year I spent 18 hours straight reading with just short breaks for food and updating my blog, and 20 hours in the event as a total (had a late start and a 3 hour accidental nap in the beginning).

H12, I wasn’t even reading anymore, but I was struck by the stomach ache of doom.
Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
Nimona by Noelle Stevenson was a great one for that.

Apart for abolishing time zones so everyone starts at the same time in their day, not really.

Which hour was most daunting for you?
I’d say Hour 7. My dog got mildly sick in the house during Hour 6. I got her outside for fresh air and cleaned up, and by the time I did it was Hour 7 and I had trouble getting back my focus.
Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
Strands of Bronze and Gold by Jane Nickerson is the perfect October read. It’s delightfully creepy.

I think the cheerleading needs some streamlining. I asked for a cheer on my blog, but wasn’t even on the list.

– At Hr 15 I fell asleep with a book in hand, woke up Hr 16 and had to call it a night at Hr 18. I’m just too old to stay up all night…

-I think anything that is semi-short so you feel accomplished rather than slogging thru one book the whole time. My go-tos are YA or urban fantasy.

Probably hour 19/20, I really wanted to finish my book, but I was sooo tired. Finished though!

I posted my link—but also wanted to say a bit thank you to everyone who worked to make this event a blazing success. I spent a lot of hours last week at work, telling myself that I could make it as Saturday was coming! So sad it is over but hope to be around for the next one. I made it it the middle of hour 21 and didn’t think that would happen! This was my 9th time to join in,and it was as fun as the 1st! This was the first time in the past 8 years that my son, Sam, did not read with me! I was a bit melancholy at first, but eventually got into my groove–sure loved the pictures and posts others supplied about their kids reading with them!

I have some ideas to try to get even more people involved. I think it would be amazing if the Readathon was known to most people and if there were thousands of people joining in. It would be cool if there were events in big cities at libraries and coffee shops where many people go to read for the readathon
