Another Dewey’s Readathon has come and gone, and we could not be more thankful for the thousands of you who joined us to read, cheer, host mini-challenges, co-host.
Heather and I are whizzes with spreadsheets and we have a pretty good organizational plan to keep things going, but without all of you taking time out of your lives to volunteer and read, this event wouldn’t happen. It’s so important to us that we honor Dewey’s legacy, so thank you so much for enthusiastically doing that time and again.
Quick Facts:
2,008 readers
132 cheerleaders
28 mini-challenges
1,102 entries in the Books Read Database (so far)
8 hourly co-hosts
1,495 Goodreads group members
120+ prizes awarded
If you’re interested in volunteering for the next readathon on April 23, 2016, fill out the form down below.
But now…Amanda from Fig and Thistle has used Storify to capture some moments from the readathon that we hope you’ll enjoy.
Welcome to Hour 24!!! This is Kate from Kate’s Book Nook. I will be your co-host for the final hour. We have made it, ya’ll. We have done this!!!! As per my traditions (I have a lot of traditions) I have included the video for We Are the Champions because, to me, if you have even read for just five minutes, you are a participant and you have done a good job! I am so proud of you. I really hope that you will all be back to join us in April.
As a final thank you, I want to thank you, the readers, for participating in this event. We couldn’t do it without you. I sincerely mean that. Without you all signing up and participating and sharing this event with others, we never would have had an event to begin with. Thank you for coming back and reading books and making this possible. I really do hope to see you next time.
Now, let’s do these last 60 minutes proud and read until the last second!

Welcome to Hour 23!!! This is Kate from Kate’s Book Nook. I will be your co-host for the last 2 hours. If you are just rejoining us for the remain couple of hours, I would like to say “Welcome back!” You have been missed.
Anyone else a bit surprised by some of those books in the infographic above? Or at least in the order in which they appear?
I would like to take a moment to thank the wonderful hosts of this event, Andi and Heather. These are two of the most amazing people in the history. They spend nearly the full year planning the event for us and taking care of things that occured after the last event (like survey results and prizes). Without all their hard work, this event wouldn’t be half the one it is. Thank you, ladies. We all owe you so much!
Random Facts of the Hour
Anyone who has ever made these late night hours knows that I love to include random facts of the hour. So here are a couple random facts for this hour:
Ray Bradbury, author of Fahrenheit 451, was a descendant of one of the Salem witches. Bradbury was descended from Mary Perkins Bradbury, who was sentenced to be hanged in 1692 but managed to escape before her execution could take place.
The earliest recorded use of ‘wicked’ to mean ‘cool, good’ is from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s first novel, This Side of Paradise. The source for this is theOxford English Dictionary, but of course there may be an earlier instance of the word which is yet to be discovered. Fitzgerald’s first novel also provides us with the first known uses of the words ‘T-shirt’ and ‘daiquiri.’
Aristophanes’ play Assemblywomen contains the longest word in Greek. It has 171 letters and is the name of a fictional food dish. It is: Lopadotemachoselachogaleokranioleipsanodrimhypotrimmatosilphioparaomelitokatakechymenokichlepikossyphophattoperisteralektryonoptekephalliokigklopeleiolagoiosiraiobaphetraganopterygon.

This is Kate from Kate’s Book Nook and I will be your cohost for the remainder of this event! You are doing so great! Don’t give up now!!!
I would also like to take a moment and thank all the mini-challenge hosts. Aren’t these all so much fun? And without so many people volunteering to to host a mini-challenge, we would not be able to do this by ourselves. And all these mini-challenges are part of what makes this event so unique and so much fun! Isn’t the book community so amazing? I hope that you’ve had a lot of fun, because I know I certainly have.
Random Facts of the Hour
Anyone who has ever made these late night hours knows that I love to include random facts of the hour. So here are a couple random facts for this hour:
A recent study found that people who read are two and a half times less likely to be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Syndrome later on in life.
According to Cristel Russell, a behavioral researcher, reading can help with any stress or turmoil occurring in your life.
A study done by the University of Buffalo has concluded that access to possible realities and fictional story lines opens you up to new emotions and feelings. It also helps you to empathize with people, by understanding different cultures.

This is Kate from Kate’s Book Nook and I will be your cohost for the remainder of this event! Let me tell you a bit about me. I am 27 and live in Nor-Cal (Northern California). I am a cross stitching addict and I have no intention of entering recovery. I also love quilting and am in the middle of 4 projects with a fifth planned. This is only noteworthy because I only learned how to quilt last spring. I am also a fan of cheese. I bought four different kinds for the readathon. Gouda, Edam, Fontina, and Brie. I buy fancy cheeses… well, at least I consider them fancy since it isn’t like cheddar or colby jack (nothing against those, but those are pretty standard where I live). Ummm, yeah, I think that is enough randomness about me. Please comment below and let me know a bit about you.
I also want to take a moment and thank all of the wonderful people who have signed up and done some cheerleading today. You guess are like a breath of fresh air. Just when one is beginning to get tired and weary and it seems like you might want to quit, you pop up with a word of encouragement. So thank you for taking a bit of your time and doing that today.
Random Facts of the Hour
Anyone who has ever made these late night hours knows that I love to include random facts of the hour. Its just what I do. Sort of like a tradition I have with you, the participants. So here are a couple random facts for this hour:
Neil Gaiman gave up journalism because he didn’t like the fact that newspapers were making things up (and getting away with it).
Roald Dahl was a spy and a World War II flying ace.
Carolyn Keene’s name may appear in every book featuring Nancy Drew, but many authors are actually involved in the writing of these hugely popular mystery stories. Carolyn Keene is really nothing more than a pseudonym.

At my house, my husband and four dogs are keeping me company. What about you? Was anyone in your household–animal, vegetable, or mineral–ambitious enough to stay up with you until now?
Keep up the good fight, friends! I know you can do it!

Hour 19 is upon us! We are positively FLYING through this readathon, y’all! This is Andi from Estella’s Revenge here to add a little perk to your event for the next two hours. How are we doing? Awake? Still reading?
While I don’t necessarily endorse coffee at this hour (don’t get the jitters!), I do endorse this GIF, soooo…
I also highly suggest cuteness in the late hours…
Now I really want to know…
When was the longest you’ve ever stayed awake during readathon?
What are the most books you’ve ever read during readathon?
What’s the most FUN you’ve ever had during readathon?

Dana back with you for my last hour. Our 18th hour, to be exact! Wowsers!
One of my favorite things about this readathon is finding new to me blogs. Every single time I found several. What about you all? What is your favorite thing about the readathon? Take a quick break from that awesome book and share in the comments section below.
Have so enjoyed spending these hours with everyone. Enjoy the rest of your reading!

Dana back with you for hour 17! We’re way close to the finish now. How are you doing out there?
My day has been a bit hectic but I’ve been reading as much as I can. That’s one of the reasons that Dewey’s is my favorite bookish event…you can do whatever you are able to do. Another thing I love? My pretend boyfriend, Four, aka Theo James. So I leave you with a bit of a pick me up for your tired eyes….
Happy reading, ya’ll!
