readathon

Hour 24

First and foremost, I want to apologize to all of you for not participating as much as I normally do on twitter and in the comments section. About 45 minutes before beginning my shift as co-host, the internet at my house decided to malfunction and refuse to connect so I have been operating all of this on my iphone and ipad. I hope you had fun anyway!

This is Kate from Kate’s Book Nook and I will be your cohost for the final hour of the readathon. Are you excited it is almost over? Did you have fun? I had so much fun! This is my favorite event of the season and I am so excited that I get the opportunity to co-host these final hours for you all. We did it, you guys! It was a crazy ride and some of us may have slept through an hour or more, but in the end, it was worth it all!

In this last post, I want to thank you, the readers and participants. Without you signing up and reading, this event wouldn’t be possible. It has been an honor, spending the last couple of hours chatting with you and getting to know you all a little bit better. You are fantastic and I hope to see you in October!

Video of the Hour:

I think we all deserve to celebrate a little that we managed to do this! It doesn’t matter if you read the full 24 hours, or if you only read half an hour. If you cracked open a pick (or listened to an audiobook) then you are a participant and you deserve to be a champion!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSTivVclQQ0 Fact of the Hour:

Random Facts of the Hour about JK Rowling:

  • JK Rowling never specifically brought up religion in Harry Potter because she was afraid her Christian readers would be able to guess the ending
  • Rowling turned down a Michael Jackson-produced musical of Harry Potter
  • Quidditch was invented after a fight with Rowling’s boyfriend of the time.
  • Platform 9 3/4 is where J.K. Rowling’s parents met.

  1. Well done everyone.
Since this is my first time I’m happy with my statistics.
Everything was awesome. Would be fun if next time we had a goodreads group where goodreads members could update their statistics 🙂
Gotta make myself something to munch on 😀

    1. That’s something we’re working on for the October event. We’ll call for October 2014 via a spreadsheet later today or tomorrow. We’d love to have some volunteers to help us with this goal!

  2. Is there a place where we all bring our stats? I have been updating every so often on my blog, but am unsure if we are also supposed to “officially” announce our stats of the read-a-thon anywhere?

This has been amazing, by the way. I am totally recruiting minions to join me next year 🙂

There is a link where you can input what books you read today, but other than that, there isn’t an official place to list your stats. You can list them here if you want. I always love to see what others have done during readathon.

    2. Kelsie, since we have such a vast number of participants, we don’t have any individual collection of our stats besides the End of Event Survey. Feel free to link your stats up there so we can visit! So glad you’ll be bringing your minions in October!

    1. Christina – I used to plan my books super specifically. Now I like to keep a variety on hand so that if I get bored or too tired, I can change books!

  7. Which hour was most daunting for you?

Hour 20. That’s when I fell asleep fit a couple of hours, but the snooze definitely helped!

Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?

The last book I started was Bill Cosby’s Kids Say the Darndest Things. Made me giggle and it is definitely a quick read! Graphic novels are also a good way to go!

Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?

Not really. I think this one went very smoothly! Maybe a group on Goodreads?

What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?

Breaking the cheerleading into teams. I git cheering in the past 24 then I ever had in the past!

How many books did you read?

Finished 5 completely, half of another and about an hour of an audio book while I ran errands.

What were the names of the books you read?

    Beast by Ally Kennen
Teen Titans: A Kid’s Game by Geoff Johns
We All Wore Stars by Theo Coster
From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Kingsbury
Sweet Tooth: In Captivity by Jeff Lemire
Kids Day the Darndest Things by Bill Cosby (finished 1/2)
Real Murders by Charlaine Harris (read about 1/5)

Which book did you enjoy most?

Teen Titans and the Bill Cosby

    Which did you enjoy least?

Beast, I guess, although now if my books were really duds. I’ve lucked out!

If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?

    N/a

How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?

Definitely! I’ll probably read again, but I might throw in some cheerleading!

  9. Just WOW on this event. And thank you thank you to everyone involved with Team Dewey and making it happen. This is my first year, first time and you can bet I will be back. I is brain tired and pumped all at the same time. Thanks again…and congrats to all who participated!

    1. Awww, thank you, Deb! Even those of us who have been doing this for years still feel the tired/pumped feeling of it all. lol

  10. I was cheering for Team Butler. I found the organization superb.

I wish there were more cheerleaders, so that the groups could have less blogs to visit. I found it quite difficult to visit every blog (though I did do it – and only one I couldn’t leave comments as I couldn’t figure out if I had to join or what.).

I never found the time to visit the blogs more than once due to this.

Well done! I hope next time I’m reading. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Jill! We wish we could attract more cheerleaders, too, but somehow that’s always a really hard task. Most people want to read more than cheer, but hopefully the cheerfulness this year will inspire others next year!

I just wanted to thank Andi and Heather for the organization and all the people who have cheered for me during the read-a-thon: even if I have been a little bit overwhelmed for my first participation and haven’t answered all the comments, I’ve read them and feel good thanks to the kind persons who’ve taken the time to let them.
What I loved most in this adventure was its spirit!
